Inspiring Women in Sport

The Inspiring Women in Sport project is designed to support female coaches to improve their knowledge, experience and coaching skills. The programme is open to female coaches at all levels who are passionate about learning, developing and supplementing their education. Activities will be based primarily in the North West area, and coaches from this region will be encouraged to engage in the programme.

Inspiring Women in Sport will also focus on the positive health and wellbeing of female coaches and identify challenges which are specific to females in sport. The programme will be delivered over a period of 12 months and each participant will receive Sport Northern Ireland certification upon completion and Inspiring Women in Sport branded sports clothing.

Programme Objectives:

• Support the education and development of female sports coaches in the North West area.

• Develop peer mentor relationships to provide support for challenges and grow communities of practice.

• Identify a model of practice for positive health and wellbeing for females involved in sport.

• Raise the profile of women in sport, especially female coaches.

• Create an avenue for females to be recruited into coaching at club and community sport level.

• Conduct research into females in coaching at a regional level to identify the challenges, issues and solutions to engaging higher female participation in coaching roles.

The first session will take place on Sunday 22nd November, 10.30am-2.30pm at the Foyle Arena. Our guest speaker is Dr. Leanne Norman from Leeds Beckett University. Leanne’s workshop will focus on the positive health and wellbeing of female coaches.
